STEAM Academy

W.P. Grier Middle School is proud to offer a STEAM Academy for students in grades 6-8.  The five components of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) are integrated into the core curriculum, providing all students with an enriching and engaging learning experience.  Middle school students with a STEAM background develop unlimited potential as they move on to high school and begin preparing for college, the workforce, or the military.

In addition to required core subject courses in English-Language Arts (ELA), math, science, and social studies, students take two “core plus” classes each semester. Core Plus classes include art, band, chorus, Spanish, business technology, computer science, medical science, engineering, and physical education/health. Additionally, qualifying students may take the following high school courses: Math I, Spanish I, World History, and Earth and Environmental Science in grades 7-8.  The courses incorporate the components of STEAM to enhance the overall academic program.

Students from outside the Grier attendance area who will be in the sixth grade for the 2026-2027 school year may apply for this program. A lottery process will be used to determine the sixth grade students who will attend (from outside the Grier attendance area).

Students perform "The Lion King"

This year, students brought “The Lion King” to life on stage with an outstanding musical performance. Over several weeks, students worked hard to learn songs, choreography, and stage production skills while building teamwork and self-confidence along the way.

For many students, it was their first time performing on stage. The experience gave them the chance to step outside their comfort zones, express their creativity, and discover new talents in a supportive environment.

Programs like this are an important part of the STEAM Academy experience, helping students grow academically, socially, and artistically while creating memories that will last a lifetime.
